Over 200 associations and groups in Yobe State have come together under one umbrella to call on the State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam, to re-contest the governorship election of the state in the 2015 general election.
The associations and groups cut-across trade unions, communities and renowned associations in the state under the auspices of Yobe concerned citizens said the present governor has within the short stay transformed the state and for the sake of development have endorsed his candidature for the exalted position come 2015.
The groups and associations led by Alhaji Yusuf Haruna told journalists at the press center in Damaturu, the state capital, that despite the severe security challenges, Governor Ibrahim Gaidam has lived up to expectation since he assumed leadership of the state and for the sake of development; he should be given another chance.
He said the construction of urban and rural roads, provision of potable water, free medical care for women and children, construction of residential and office accommodation, educational development in the state as well as job creation within the period are commendable efforts that should be sustained.
Haruna stated that the projects mentioned were clearly an endorsement of the governor’s stewardship in the state and thus, making the groups and associations to purchase nomination form for the governor.
“I therefore on behalf of all the over 200 non-governmental organisations wish to inform you that we have volunteered to purchase nomination form for the post of governor of Yobe state to Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Gaidam as part of our contribution to the development of the state”
The special guest at the occasion Alhaji Hassan Yusuf said no governor has transformed the state like Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam hence the need to give him another chance so as to continue with the good works he has started.
The elder statesman said he is one of the brains behind the creation of Yobe state and will always play significant roles in ensuring its development and urges the various associations and groups to work for the realization of the vision.
Various speakers at the occasion praised the initiatives of the governor leading to the transformation of the state within a very short period and pledged to carry the message to their members across the state.
