The Lagos State Government has unveiled three new train sets, each comprising four coaches for the Lagos Blue Rail Line Corridor.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu unveiled the new trains at the Iganmu Train Station. He said the additional train sets marked a significant milestone in the state’s commitment to improving mass transit infrastructure.

The governor who led the official handover to the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), attributed the timely delivery of the trains to the steadfast support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to him, the procurement aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government and Lagos’ THEMES Plus development agenda.

“These new trains will double passenger capacity, reduce wait times, and offer commuters a more predictable and efficient travel experience,” he said.

He also said the state government is determined to reduce travel time across the state and provide infrastructure that reflects the quality of life that the people deserve.

He further explained that the trains would now arrive every 10 to 15 minutes, significantly easing congestion and improving commuter confidence.

The governor further gave an update on phase two of the Blue Rail Line project, which is from project from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, assuring Lagosians that construction is on track for completion by 2026.

He added that more rolling stock is expected for the Red Line rail corridor before the end of the year, as part of wider efforts to ease the cost and time of transportation for residents.

The new train sets are part of a broader strategy to modernise Lagos’ transport network and position the state as a model for sustainable urban mobility in Africa.

Sanwo-Olu was accompanied at the event by the Managing Director of LAMATA, Abimbola Akinajo, alongside members of the State Executive Council.
