Police Parade Criminal Suspects In Anambra

Edo_House_of_Assembly-police-at-complexSixteen suspected criminals have been paraded at the State CID, Awka, and at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) premises, Awkuzu, for sundry crimes in Anambra State.

Addressing journalists during the parade, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Ali Okechukwu, said that some of the suspects were suspected members of the notorious gang presently terrorizing Nanka community and its environs in Orumba North Local Government Area, while the others are involved in murder and cultism cases.

Among those paraded is Boniface Ikechukwu, also known as Idemili, a suspected notorious armed robber who has been on the Police wanted list for years with six other suspects.

The case of Boniface was in connection with the murder of one Adimora Chukwudelue Emmanuel who he allegedly lured to Atani in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state with his gang, where they dispossessed him of his car and thereafter beat him to death.

Mr Okechukwu said that further efforts were still being made to arrest other members of his gang who were still at large while Boniface would be arraigned soon in court.

The Police also paraded the notorious gang of youths at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Awkuzu, for several cases of kidnapping, rape, armed robbery and assassination at Nanka community.

Their continued criminal activities prompted the Anambra State Police Command to re-mobilize and raid the community.

The Police Public Relations Officer appealed to parents to always monitor the activities of their wards and urged the public to continue to volunteer credible information to the Police to ensure that the state continues to be the safest in the country.

The Police rounded off the exercise with the parade of one Ifedilichukwu Nwankwo who with his gang killed two young men at Tarzan junction at Nkpor and several attempts by the Police to arrest them proved futile since 2014.

Mr Okechukwu revealed that on one occasion, a team led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ajalli Police Division was ambushed by the gang. The allegedly stripped the DPO naked and chopped off one of his ears.

Police On Alert To Ensure Peaceful Election In Anambra – CP

policeThe State Commissioner of Police, Mr Hassan Karma, who attributed the success of the command to the support of the State Governor,Willie Obiano, said the police are on alert to ensure Anambra State is rid of any crime especially during this period of election.

As March 28 Presidential and National Assembly Election day approaches, the police in Anambra State have shown their readiness to curb crime in any form or shape to ensure violent free elections.

At the Headquarters of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Awkuzu, in Oyi Local Government Area, Four suspected criminals met their Waterloo while 20 others were paraded for sundry violent crimes including kidnapping, armed robbery, car-snatching, and fake currency printing.

In a similar development, combined security forces including the Police, Army, DSS, Navy, NDLEA, and others embarked on a show of force with a road march ahead of tomorrow’s election, appealing to all and sundry to be law abiding in the discharge of their civic duties.

Starting the road march from the 302 Artillery Regiment, Onitsha, the Commander, Colonel Mohammed Bello, said the essence of the show of force was to display total domination of the entire State by the security agency while the Commander, 14 Field Regiment, Lieutenant Sheriff Aremu, said nobody should think of disrupting the election at all.

The dead ones were suspected kidnappers who died in a shootout with the police during arrest. Several arms were also recovered from them.

Mr Karma, advised parents to put their ward on checks during this election period.

Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, commended the police and assured of continued commitment to the safety and security of the State.

The Commander said there is adequate manpower that would guarantee peaceful polls in Anambra as they have, according to Intelligence Report, deployed enough security forces to flash-point areas where violence is perceived to break out during the election.

Two Active Kidnap Dens Demolished In Anambra

kidnappers denTwo active kidnap dens have been demolished by the Police in Anambra State at Odida-Ogidi and Ire-Ojoto in Idemili North and South Local Government areas of the state.

Leading the demolition squad, the State Commissioner of Police, Usman Gwary, said that the kidnap den in Ogidi, a rented bungalow, have fetched the suspected kidnappers over 100million Naira and has housed over twelve victims.

The den in Ire Ojoto, however, has been used to keep over 30 victims and during a search in the house on arrival, two bags of Indian hemp were recovered.

The police, alongside two kidnap suspects took the press to the two active kidnap hideouts.

The Odida-Ogidi kidnap den was indeed a haven as the bushy and isolated location made it easy for the kidnappers’ sinister operation. Various items including food, furniture and electrical appliances were recovered from the rented three bedroom bungalow depicting constant habitation of the house.

The Commissioner of Police, Usman Gwary, stated that according to the law of the state, the Governor has given his express approval for the demolition of the building while the right of occupancy by the owner revoked.

At Ire-Ojoto was a building which had been built since October 1963 by late Chief Edwin Okigbo. It was pulled down as it was proved beyond doubt that the building in the last few years had been turned into a very active kidnap den.

While the villagers watched from a distant, a family member and chairman of the community vigilante group, Mr. Paul Okigbo, expressed surprise at the development but still maintained that the law must take its full course if the story told about the house being a kidnap den was true.

In a similar development at the headquarters of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in Awkuzu, 17 suspects were paraded amongst whom were 5 female suspects who were arrested for number plate forgery as well as forgery of all kinds of motorcycle particulars and documents.

The male suspects were arrested for mostly armed robbery in which a 3-man gang amongst them was notorious for diverting goods from unsuspecting heavy duty truck drivers on the major highways. All the arrests were made in one week.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Emeka Chukwuemeka, showed the State Commissioner of Police, who arrived at the SARS office, some of the goods recovered from the suspects. He also gave details of the arrest.

The brigade’s attack on criminals, according to the State Commissioner of Police, would continue until the state is rid of kidnapping, armed robbery and all forms of criminal activities.

Obiano Set To Fight Insecurity With Job Creation

Willie Obiano1Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has assured the youths and the unemployed of his readiness to provide over five hundred thousand jobs to as many as are willing to work.

He announced the plan aimed at in ridding  the state of all criminal elements after the Joint Security Operation embarked on a show of might in the rural communities of the state as most criminals who have fled the urban areas as a result of the brigade attack on them were hibernating in the rural villages.

The governor said registration of unemployed youths had commenced in the 21 Local Government Areas of the state and called on all youths to utilise the opportunity and get employment.

From the Divisional Police Station, Ogidi, in Idemili North Local Government Area, the Joint Security Operation comprising the Police, Army, Navy, State Security Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the Civil Defense moved in a convoy to patrol the rural areas.

The patrol was not to create fear or terror in the hearts of the people but it was a show of might and superiority over kidnappers and armed robbers in order to affirm the resolve of the Joint Security Operation to dismantling their command and control centers for those who have fled the major cities of the state. The state commissioner of police urged the rural residents to give information to the police if any unknown fellow or activity is noticed in their neighborhood.

When the patrol team got to Oyeagu Abagana, Dunukofia local government area, residents express satisfaction at the level of security they are presently enjoying unlike before.

People stood in awe and wonder as the patrol team moved from Oyeagu to the notorious Awkuzu Junction where navy and military check points were permanently stationed.

On issues of security and unemployment in the state, the Governor assured the people of his commitment to a safe and secure Anambra and announced the registration of youths in the 21 Local Government Areas for meaningful job opportunities.

It is on record that within the two months the Joint Security Operation onslaught commenced in the state. Over 250 criminals have been arrested with 47 as kidnappers. Their property and hideouts have also been demolished with the latest being the Ezinifite and Azia demolition which took place less than a fortnight ago.

Three Buildings Owned By Kidnappers Demolished In Anambra

Kidnnapers-House Demolished-In-AnambraThe operation Stamp Out kidnappers in Anambra State on Friday got to a high point with the demolition of three hide out locations kidnap victims are kept.

The three hideout locations in Aguleri, Anambra East local government area, built by kidnap kingpins, were completely demolished as directed by the state governor, Willie Obiano, as he goes tougher against crime and criminality in the state.

The governor sent a warning note to all landlords to be wary of activities going on in their property or risk losing them, as the war against kidnappers and armed robbers has been intensified. The demolition team was led by the state commissioner of police and the joint security operation.

The first building was located at Ezi Agulu, Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area and owned by a notorious kidnap kingpin, Onyeamuma, from Nsukka in Enugu State who was killed in a gun battle with the police at Otuocha few years ago.

No Hiding Place

The second building demolished was located at Agu-owele, Enugwu Aguleri built by a consortium of kidnappers at the cost of 17 million Naira  and also used for keeping kidnap victims while the third was built at Umuaneri Aguleri belonging to a kidnap suspect called Anamako, who allegedly kidnapped the traditional Prime Minister of Enugwu-Ukwu.

The Special Adviser also said the governor had also directed that buildings built with proceeds from kidnapping and armed robbery or used for the same purpose would be demolished as well.

He added that aside demolition, the government would revoke the ownership of the property and take the land. A kidnap victim from Aguleri commended the government for the exploits and recounted his ordeal in the hands of the kidnappers which left one of his legs devastated.

In another development, the State Police Command paraded eleven kidnap and armed robbery suspects at the Headquarters of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Awkuzu.

Parading the suspects, the state police spokesperson, Emeka Chukwuemeka said the suspects were arrested at Nnobi, Okpoko, Onitsha and Enugwu-ukwu.

In his reaction, the state governor said the arrests and the demolition would serve as a signal to kidnappers and armed robbers that they have ‘no hiding place’ in Anambra.
