Police Arrest Suspects Following Crisis In Ifo Area Of Ogun State


The Police in Ogun State have made some arrests in the wake of a crisis that broke out in Ifo local government area of Ogun state as a result of supremacy battle between two rival cult groups.

What seemed a mere clash on Friday, April 10, degenerated into robberies and other criminal activities thus prompting steeper measures to be taken by the Police Force to get the situation under control.

The state’s police command in a bid to nip the crisis at its bud deployed a large number of policemen including SARS, anti cultist unit, anti-kidnapping units as well as conventional policemen were drawn from all adjoining police stations in the area under the command of the Area Commander, ACP Monday Agbonika to restore normalcy and bring the hoodlums to book.

In compliance with the directives of the commissioner of police, the teams moved into the area and embarked on aggressive and intelligence-based patrol of the entire area of Ifo, Owode Ijako, Joju, Ijoko, and Agbado area.

Their efforts yielded positive results as five of the hoodlums were apprehended in the Ijako area of Sango Ota.

Those apprehended include Lucky (m 22), Badmus Sodiq (m’ 27), Showumi Femi (m’ 21), Adeagbo Adewumi (m’ 22) and Agboola Femi (m’ 21).

The patrol team also moved to Winners church area along Idiroko road where another suspect Adekunle Okeoye (m’ 23) was arrested with a brand new locally made short gun loaded with five live cartridges and assorted charms.

Also, the operatives extended their operations to Araromi community in Agbado where three other suspects namely Sulaiman Ogunbiyi, aka Absorver federal, Saminu Adamu and Nasiru Umar were arrested with facemask and assorted charms.

Earlier, ten of the hoodlums had been picked up at various locations in Ifo, Kajola and Ososun areas of Ifo local government by SARS operatives.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police CP Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered that all the arrested suspects be transferred to special anti-robbery squads SARS for discreet investigation. He equally ordered the continuation of the operation until the last of the hoodlums is arrested.

The CP, therefore, appealed to members of the public not to be unnecessarily apprehensive as the command will continue to do everything within its power to ensure that the good people of Ogun state enjoy adequate security during and after this trying period in the country.

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the shooting and killing of an unidentified young man in the Iyana-Coker area of Ifo.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed the incident to Channels Television, said that the commissioner of police, Bashir Makama has ordered an investigation into the cause of the incident.

Oyeyemi also revealed that the officer belongs to the zonal intervention squad of Zone 2 Police Command and the team had gone to arrest some armed robbery suspects when they were attacked.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Channels Television, the officers opened fire at a bus stop in the area along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, killing the man, and several other people were injured while scampering to safety.

The incident which happened on Sunday resulted in a breakdown of law and order as aggrieved persons blocked the expressway with burnt tyres which disrupted the flow of vehicular movement on both sides of the road.

The shooting is happening barely a week after a young woman was shot dead by policemen while returning from a nightclub in Lagos, and barely three weeks after the fatal shooting of Kolade Johnson, also in Lagos.

Fake Doctor Nabbed For Carrying Out Illegal AbortionA fake doctor who allegedly performed an illegal abortion of a six month pregnancy in Akute, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State has been arrested.

The crime was uncovered by a supervisory team of the State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) while monitoring the level of compliance of the re-validation and registration exercise of health facilities in the State.

Chairman of NANNM, Roseline Solarin who disclosed this during an interview added that the fake doctor was also discovered to have organised a graduation ceremony for a fake nurse.

She, however reiterated the readiness of the professional body to lead the fight against quackery in the health sector.

“This particular suspect conducted a graduation ceremony for a fake nurse. Let me assure that the NANNM is now fully ready to cooperate with the State Government in the fight against quackery in the State health sector.

Any nurses or doctor found practicing without the prerequisite certificate would be arrested and prosecuted” Solarin said.

While commending the state government for taking bold steps in fighting quackery in the health sector, Solarin lamented that fake doctors and nurses are gradually taking over the profession but  warned that anyone caught practicing without the prerequisite certificate would be prosecuted and shown the way out of the system.

Reacting to the development, the
declared that government was ready to combat quackery in the health sector to a standstill, expressing regret that a large number of unsuspecting members of the public had been victims of this practice

Ipaye declared that the state would not be a comfort zone for quack health personnel, warning that any health facility caught operating with fake documents or not having the new approved signboards by the state government would be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the state.

“I want to urge members of the public to always patronize approved health facilities that have signboards with the new colour and coded number, which can offer them better and qualitative health care services.

”The Governor has mandated officials of the Ministry to arrest and prosecute anyone found operating facilities with fake documents” Ipaye said.

To send the right signal in this direction, over 60 illegal health facilities were shut down in different parts of the state during similar monitoring exercises in 2016.

Police Arrest Woman For Alleged Child Abuse In Ogun

Police, child abuse, ogunPolice has arrested a middle-aged house woman for an alleged child abuse act in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.

The Ogun State Police Command told reporters that the woman was detained for purportedly maltreating a five-year-old girl at Ifo area of the state.

Little Iyanuoluwa, whose leg and arm were broken after she was allegedly beaten by her step mother, is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba in Abeokuta, the state’s capital.

Confirming the incident, the acting Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the woman would be charged as soon as investigation into the incident was completed.

Reacting to the incident, a Director at the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Rotimi Sotubo, said that the government had taken over the responsibility and care of the little girl.

Governor Amosun Promises New City Development In Ogun Central

AmosunThe Government of Ogun State, South-West, Nigeria, says it is initiating a multi-billion naira new city development in Ifo, Ewekoro and Obafemi/Owode Local Governments in Ogun Central Senatorial District of the state.

This disclosure was made by the State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, while on the working tour of Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

Addressing the huge crowds that gathered at the event, Governor Amosun, while highlighting some of the achievements of his administration in the past three years, also announced some developmental projects being initiated within the state.

Ogun State Considers Extending Deadline For Regularisation Of C-of-O

The Ogun State Government is considering an extension to the deadline for the ongoing regularisation of Certificate of Occupancy and other title documents by homeowners across the state.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun hinted on this when he led members of the State Executive Council and other government functionaries for an on-the-spot assessment tour of the Homeowners’ Charter Service centres at Otta, Ifo, Akute, Ojodu Abiodun and Ado Odo-Ota Local Government areas of the state.

He urged homeowners to seize the opportunity provided by the scheme to regularise their title documents at huge discounts and quickly too.

“Having come here today, i am seeing it for my self. Two or three things came out. One, that the people appreciate what they are doing and that they have bought-in into what we are doing and that tells us that everybody have accepted the programme,” he said.

The initial deadline was February 28.


Kara Market: Fire Razes Stores, Houses at Isheri

Fire has razed the popular Kara market situated in the Isheri area along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, Ogun state in Nigeria’s south west region.

A similar incident happened April 3rd (night) where an annex of the market which deals on provision, food stuffs, soft drinks, tailoring, cement and spare parts was gutted by fire as many traders counted their losses which ran into millions of naira.

The Ogun state government had earlier explained to the traders that they will be relocated to a more suitable environment which will be situated at Arepo village in Ifo local government area of the state.
