Operation Safe Haven, the Special Task Force that is overseeing internal operation of peace keeping in Plateau State, has assured residents of villages where several people were killed recently by suspected herdsmen of adequate security with continuous patrol of the areas by the military.

The Commander of the Task Force, Major General Henry Ayoola while reassuring members of the community of Bachit in Riyom local government area said the task force is determined to chase out attackers from the areas as directed by the federal government.

The Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang in his address to the residents urge youths from the areas to remain vigilant by cooperating and complementing security agents efforts of securing their areas through organised vigilante groups.

Since the death of Senator Gyang Dantong, representing Plateau North senatorial district in the National Assembly and the Majority leader in State House of Assembly, Gyang James Fulani, who were killed at a mass burial ceremony in Riyom local government area, there have been tension and agitation among the youths of the area until the visit by Mr Jang to commiserate with the communities and calm down the aggrieved youths not to take laws into their hands.

Mr Jang speaking in Hausa urged the residents particularly the youths to change their ways and be more committed to serving God rather than indulging in vices that are detrimental to their bodies and souls.

Responding to the issues of security and attackers hiding on the mountains surrounding the attack villagers, General Ayoola assured residents of adequate security within the areas with the military operation still in progress.

“You can be very sure that there are no foreign people hiding in any rock or cave,” he said.

The army General said he personally joined his men to search the entire vicinity and based on his observation he said “I can tell you categorically with all assurance that there’s no foreign element hiding anywhere in your community.”

Riyom local government authority as part of its contributions to maintaining law and order within the local government has put some measures in place to compliment government efforts through sensitisation and training of youths on security tips.
