According to a press statement issued by the organizers of the concert the band leader Bobby Brown, who recently lost his ex-wife Whitney Houston, is excited about this trip to Nigeria and has requested that the concert be dedicated to the memory of his late ex-wife.

“Bobby Brown considers performing as therapy to get him through a difficult time,” Gbolahan Balogun, Managing Director of R28 Events said in the statement. “[Brown] wrote to us last week that he’d like to do this concert in memory of Whitney, and we said fine,” Balogun continued.

Balogun also revealed that top Nigerian entertainers including 2Face, Banky W, Duncan Mighty, Omawumi, eLDee and Modenine will be performing at the maiden edition of the R28 concerts as well.

New Edition, popular for its 80s smash tracks including ‘Candy Girl’, ‘Cool It Now’ and ‘Mr. Telephone Man’, is currently on a 30th Anniversary Tour. Other members of the band are Ronnie Devoe, Ricky Bell and Mike Bevins, who had also performed as a breakout trio with the moniker Bell Bev DeVoe; and Ralph Tresvant.
