A psychiatric patient at the Odense University Hospital in Denmark on Friday stabbed a doctor and two nurses, before surrendering to the authorities after a 10-hour standoff the Associated Press reported.

Reports say it was not clear how the patient, a 47-year-old man suffering from Paranoia, had obtained the knife.

He had stabbed the doctor in the stomach and the two female nurses in the face, the medical director at the hospital, Anders Meinert Pedersen, told reporters.

The doctor and nurses are in critical condition, reports said.

The inpatient had contacted the ward on Wednesday, asking to be admitted, and then changed his mind when forcefully interned.

Pedersen said the patient had attacked while getting his medication.

The patient, unidentified in keeping with Danish policy, has a previous record for arms possession and arson.
