The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Youth and Social Development, Dr. Dolapo Badru, has stated that 497 abandoned babies have been rescued from the streets by state government.

Badru, disclosed this on Tuesday at a news conference , where he stated that the babies have been taken to various motherless babies home and orphanage in the state.

“The babies were rescued at different sites, which made it obvious that their mothers did not want them. We took them to homes and orphanages.”

He  further explained that 82 children have been released for adoption, as the state received 753 applications from prospective adopters out of which 709 were within the country and 24 were outside the country.

The special adviser added that the state government is presently making arrangement with countries like France, United States of America, United Kingdom and Germany among others on the possibility of securing international adoption for the children with medical challenges.
