Pioneer chairman of People’s Democratic Party, Solomon Lar states that in spite of the achievements recorded by the country since independence, corrupt practices have been the major challenge retarding the growth of the country.

Addressing journalists on the occasion of the nation’s independence anniversary, the former governor of Benue /Plateau state observed that Nigeria needs to address the issue of corruption while the leadership should show more determination in fighting the cankerworm that has eaten into the fabrics of the nation.

The former member of parliament representing Low Land East in the First Republic expressed concern on the over concentration of the nation’s economy on crude oil as he commend government’s effort in diversifying and looking towards other resources.

Reflecting on education, health, international relation and many other spheres of life, he observed that Nigeria has achieved a lot and kudos must be given to the founding fathers for their roles while the young ones should build on the achievements.
