The result of the Local Government election held in Anambra state has been announced, with the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, clearing 20 chairmanship positions out of 21.

Declaring the result, Commissioner in-charge of Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC, Sylvester Okonkwo, said that the election in Nnewi North was declared inconclusive and would be held on Saturday, January 18.

In the councillorship result, APGA swept 304 wards; PDP cleared 12 wards while PPA and UPP won in one ward each.

Party officials and stakeholders in the electoral process of Anambra State gathered to witness the announcement of the outcome of the Local Government election at the premises of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, ANSIEC.

The elated National Chairman of APGA, Victor Umeh, maintained that the victory of the ruling party was one well deserved, as the local government election having been conducted is a giant stride by the present administration in Anambra State in the New Year.

Some opposition parties however feel differently about the election which they said was not credible. Anambra State Chairman of Labour Party, Samuel Oraegbunam, condemned the process saying that ANSIEC lacked the competence to conduct the election.

Meanwhile, the ANSIEC Chairman has advised aggrieved persons to bear with the commission and channel their grievances properly to the court for redress.
