The Supreme Court has again affirmed the election of Rochas Okorocha as the governor of Imo state.

Justice Clara Ogunbiyi while delivering judgment in the appeal filed by Governor Okorocha challenging the decision of the Appeal Court, Owerri, which joined his predecessor, Mr. Ikedi Ohakim in the appeal instituted by a candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, berated the former governor for embarking on an endless litigation.

The court held that the application for joinder granted by the Court of Appeal is an attempt by Mr Ohakim to re-litigate a matter that had long been settled by a properly constituted election tribunal.

The court further held that the lower court over-reached itself by assuming jurisdiction thereby giving Mr Ohakim a second opportunity to challenge the election of Mr Okorocha through the back door.

Governor Okorocha commended the Judiciary for staying on the path of justice and truth, saying that with the judgement, the judiciary has once again proved to be the last hope for the common man.

“The ruling should serve as a pointer to the opposition that my election as the Governor of Imo State is divine. It will also go a long way to show to the world that the masses and good people of Imo State are solidly behind my rescue mission for the state,” Governor Okorocha told Channels Television’s Imo State correspondent in Owerri, the Imo State capital, shortly after the ruling.
