sss presidentThe Department of State Services has paraded 16 persons suspected to have masterminded the kidnap of two sisters in Abuja and a relation of President Goodluck Jonathan in Bayelsa State.

The suspected kidnappers received 10 million ransom before the abducted girls were released. The two sisters were abducted on June 8 and were released on June 17.

Addressing a News Conference in Abuja on Thursday, the Deputy Director and Spokesperson of the Service, Marilyn Ogar, said that the suspects were arrested following a security operation by the service.

Ogar added that the leader of the gang (names withheld), was arrested and convicted of illegal possession of arms and ammunition in 2013.

“After serving the jail term of one and half years at the Keffi Prison in Nasarawa State, he returned to his criminal activities”, she said.

While acknowledging the support of members of the public in the fight against criminal acts, the service stressed the need for members of the public to be vigilant about their environment, as issues of security cannot be left in the hands of security agencies alone.
