The Kaduna state government has declared Monday, December 8, as work-free day to enable residents get their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs).

The exercise, which is conducted  by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), is to last for three days and would enable citizens who registered in the previous exercise in 2010, turn their Temporary Voters Cards to permanent ones.

In a statement issued by the Director General Media and Publicity to the state Governor, Ahmed Maiyaki, says the declaration of the public holiday was to enable public servants and other eligible residents  to collect their permanent voters cards.

The Kaduna State Government said it is committed to ensuring that every resident exercises his or her civic responsibility and therefore advised all residents to take advantage of the work-free day and the two subsequent days to partake in the crucial exercise of obtaining their PVCs.

The collection of PVCs is scheduled to commence between the hours of 8.00 am to 4.00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Those eligible to collect the PVCS are registered voters including citizens who lost their temporary voters cards but have their details on the database.

According to a statement released by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, all prospective voters must be physically present at the collection centres to get their cards as there will be no collection by proxy.
