Kwara_PDP_Governorship_Primary_Result_ProtestThe crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State after the conduct of a governorship election primary is far from being over.

Days after the primary election was won by Mr Simon Ajibola, some candidates in the state and party members are vigorously resisting the emergence of the governorship candidate.

The members are opposing his ticket because of the process that led to his emergence which they said was ‘undemocratic’.

Nearly 200 of the party’s members held a protest against the result of the election on Saturday.

They gathered at the party’s secretariat in Ilorin, the state’s capital, holding placards with different inscriptions.

They requested for the conduct of a fresh governorship primary that would produce another candidate.

One of the protesters said that the winner of the primary election was unpopular and was not known in his ward.

“Even in his ward, he cannot win his polling unit,” he said.

Another protester said that most of the delegates that were supposed to vote in the last Primary were denied their rights to vote.

The winner of the primary election, Mr Ajibola, insisted that the election was conducted in a democratic way, describing the process as free, fair and credible.

“Every delegate at the election primary was given an opportunity to vote and the process was democratic,” Mr Ajibola said, contradicting the protesters claims.

While the protest was going on, security personnel were present to ensure that the protest remained peaceful.
