ChikunResidents of Ungwar Sunday and Ungwar Yelwa communities in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, have commended Governor Mukhtar Yero for constructing an access road linking up with the two communities which had been abandoned for many years.

They said the construction of the Halima junction road which was neglected for too long by previous administrations had enhanced the socio-economic development of the people of the area.

Speaking during a solidarity march on the repair of the road and in support of the governor’s re-election, the residents comprising of natives and non indigenes, pointed out that the construction of the road had given them a sense of belonging and had made life easier for them in Chikun.

They promised to support Governor Yero’s re-election bid and President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 and April 11 elections so they can continue with their good works.

The people of the community also solicited for the repair of the Ungwa Yelwa road and other dilapidated roads in their community.

Similarly, Governor Yero also received commendation from a coalition of youth groups from the southern part of Kaduna state for his plan to establish a University of Science and Technology in the zone and also providing infrastructural and human capital development across the state.

The youths at a news conference also promised to drum up support for the governor’s re-election in the forthcoming elections. They said that the governor has been able to complete some of the ongoing projects he inherited from his predecessor and therefore deserve another term to continue with the good work.

According to the 2006 census, Ungwar Sunday and Ungwar Yelwa communities in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, with a sizeable number of other tribes like Ibos, Igalas, Bwari, Idoma, Ikulus and Kataf, constituted more than half of the population in the local government.

Sadly, one major problem facing the residents is lack of good road network. The Halima junction road which linked the two communities had been a subject of concern for the people, thereby hampering their socio-economic activities over the years, especially during the rainy season.

However, reprieve came their way when the state Public Works Agency moved its machines to site and commenced work on the road. In less than three months, the once dilapidated road has become motorable, allowing for easy movement of persons.
