BMATTThe British Military Advisory Training Team (BMATT) in collaboration with the Defence Headquarters have organised a training for officers from the Public Relations Unit of the Nigerian military on effective information and crisis management.

The training which commenced at the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre, Jaji, Kaduna State, was conducted for officers from the Public Relations Departments of the Nigerian Navy, Airforce and Army.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the five-day training course, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, says that the training was to expose the officers to be more efficient in managing information during crisis, which would help in giving accurate media report.

He stated that there had always been a huge gap on information dissemination between military services and the media, hence the need to train the officers on how to effectively fill this gap.

The training is to further expose the officers to some new techniques on crisis and information management which are vital to any military operations across the globe.

Leader of the British Military Advisory Training Team, Major Jo Panayiotou, said the exercise had become imperative in the face of conflicting reports between the media and the military especially during crisis situations.

The British Military Advisory Training Team has been assisting Nigeria in the capacity building of its military forces in the areas of new tactics for over 35 years.
