Benin, Oba of benin, Benin MonarchEdo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole has presented the staff of office to the new Oba of Benin, Eheneden Erediauwa.

The crown prince, Eheneden Erediauwa is was coronated as the 40th monarch of the Benin kingdom on Thursday, October 20.

Activities marking the coronation of the new monarch of the Benin Kingdom have been ongoing in the Edo State capital.

The ancient city is agog with ceremonies which are steeped in ancient tradition.

The event is attended by prominent Nigerians and first class traditional rulers from across the country.

Among them are the Sultan of Sokoto, the Emir of Kano, the Olu of Warri, the Ooni of Ife and the Obi of Onitsha.

The chairman of the Coronation Planning Committee prof. Greg Akenzua told Channels Television that everything necessary had been done to make the ceremony as memorable as possible.

Edo state had declared October 20, 2016 a public holiday in preparation for the historic event.

The government believes the public holiday would give Edo people the opportunity to partake in the historic installation of the new Oba.

In fulfillment of the coronation rights of the Benin kingdom, the crown Prince on Tuesday, visited Useh Village in Egor Local Government Area, to choose the name he will bear as king.
