The Kano State House Assembly has called off its investigation into allegations of misappropriation of funds and other infractions against the Kano Emirates Council.

The Assembly called off the investigation after receiving a letter from the State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The letter was read during Monday’s plenary by the Speaker, Mr Kabiru Alhassan Rurum.

In the letter, as read by the Speaker, the governor urged the Assembly to suspend its investigation following pleas by past leaders, traditional rulers and various statesmen across the federation for the matter to be dropped.

After reading the letter, the Speaker presented the request to the lawmakers for consideration and they unanimously agreed to stop the investigation.

In approving the request, the lawmakers hailed the governor for his intervention, describing it as timely and in the interest of peace in the ancient city of Kano.

The suspension of the probe comes after the state anti-corruption agency also announced that it was ending its investigation into the financial dealings of the Emirate Council.
