Three policemen are reported to have died on Tuesday evening as their station was said to have been set ablaze.
A police source confirmed the incident, saying that it followed a clash between some naval officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
According to the source, a misunderstanding happened at a check point opposite the Navy barracks in Akim area of the town.
He said trouble began after a police man stopped a naval officer at Akim police check point but allegedly refused to stop, leading to a shootout.
The Navy reportedly mobilised later this evening and set the police station ablaze.
