Up to 170,000 people are expected to visit the Welsh capital – a city which only has 4,000 hotel rooms – and an accommodation shortage has been of concern for the organisers of the final – the Football Association of Wales (FAW) and UEFA.
A year ago the FAW approached a company – Camping Ninja – to setup a site in the city’s Pontcanna Fields; around a 20-minute walk from the stadium.
The camp can accommodate up to 5,000 people and compared with some hotel prices is reasonably priced for fans travelling from Italy or Spain who have only had a few weeks to plan their trip since their teams reached the final.
One hotel in Swansea was reportedly charging 4,500gbp per room per night and other outlets like AirB&B have been asking for anything up to 6,500gbp per night for a six-bedroom house.
Co-founder of Camping Ninja, Rhian Evans said their site offered a great alternative for people looking to visit the Welsh capital but admitted sales have been poor so far with only around 1,000 people confirmed (as of June 1) to stay in Pontcanna Fields over the weekend.
The match on Saturday kicks off at 1845GMT.
