Lassa Fever Outbreak: LUTH Asks Lagosians To Remain Calm

The governing body of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) says there is no cause for panic over the recent Lassa fever outbreak in the state.

The Chief Medical Director of LUTH, Professor Chris Bode, stated this on Wednesday at a press conference which he said was necessary to address what he called ‘sensationalised accounts’ of the disease outbreak.

Professor Bode assured the residents of the state (Lagosians) to remain calm as all contacts are being monitored and have not shown signs of infection.

He added that all those who are being monitored have been given a thermometer to check their temperature twice daily and report any temperature spike.

According to the Chief Medical Director, the three patients who tested positive are responding to treatment but never came down with symptoms.

He further urged Lagosians to keep their surroundings clean and their houses rat free as much as possible, as well as to cover cooked and uncooked food properly.

Also present at the press briefing was the State Epidemiologist, Dr. Eniola Erinosho, who reminded residents of the state that Lassa fever already has a known cure.

Dr. Erinosho also called for calm, saying the government is working with the hospital to ensure the situation remains contained.
