The Benue State House of Assembly has elected Honorable Titus Uba, the lawmaker representing Kyan state constituency as its new Speaker.
Uba, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), was elected shortly after the former speaker, Terkimbi Ikyange, was impeached on Tuesday.
The impeachment came after a motion of no confidence was moved by Honourable Richard Ujege, the lawmaker representing Konshisha state constituency.
The move which was backed by 21 members out of the 30-man Assembly, took place in the absence of the (impeached) speaker, but the clerk of the House was present at the plenary.
Subsequently, Uba was elected.
Also, a new Deputy Speaker, Egli Johnson Ahubi, who represents Otukpo/Akpa state constituency was elected.
