The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 35-year-old commercial motorcyclist in connection with an alleged attempt to kidnap two pupils in Katsina State.

The suspect identified as Abdurrashid Mohammed of Unwalar Jangefe quarters in the state capital was arrested on Thursday and handed over to the operatives of the Katsina Command of the NSCDC.

In a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters, Katsina, the NSCDC Spokesman, DSC Mohammed Abdara explained that the suspect was arrested by an officer who was on official assignment at the Katsina Family Support Program Primary and Secondary School while trying to pick up the two pupils from the school.

Unfortunately, the suspect was intercepted by the father of the two pupils and reported to the command through the officer that was stationed at the school.

Abdara asked parents and schools managements to always remain vigilant especially with the recent security challenges facing the state, advising that school entrance points should always remain shut to avoid contact with criminal elements.

Parents and caregivers were also advised to make sure that they pick their wards themselves or assign trustworthy persons to pick them up after closing.

“Some schools even use identity cards meant to identify who will be coming to claim or pick up the children,” DSC Abdara also suggested.

Meanwhile, the suspect, Abdurrashid Mohammed, in an interview admitted that he was sent by someone to pick the children.
