Obi: Kwankwaso Doesn’t Need Endorsement, Says NNPP Chieftain

LP's Peter Obi recently bagged endorsements from some elder statesmen.

The Adamawa State chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Phineas Elisha has rubbished the endorsement of candidates ahead of next year’s poll, maintaining that the party’s presidential flagbearer Rabiu Kwankwaso does not need such.

His comment came on the heels of multiple endorsements of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi for the 2023 elections. Former president Olusegun Obasanjo and the leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) Edwin Clark were the latest to back the LP flagbearer.

But the NNPP chieftain has dismissed the move, arguing that Kwankwaso’s credentials set him apart.

“We don’t require any endorsement. Our presidential candidate (Kwankwaso) does not require any endorsement because he knows where he is coming from. I stated it earlier on: he did very well (as Kano governor,” he said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday.

While he admitted that people are free to make choices, he faulted Obasanjo’s endorsement of the former Anambra state governor and described it as “intimidation”.  According to him, the move is a violation of the law.

“That his endorsement is intimidation. A former president endorsing a presidential candidate is intimidation. That violates the Electoral Act,” the NNPP chieftain added.
