Police Reject N1m Bribe, Arrest Suspected Ritualist In Ogun

The suspect, however, said he did not participate in the killing of the victim on January 28, 2023.


The suspected ritualist,Ifasoji Ayangbesan, was arrested in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State.

 

The police in Ogun have rejected a bribe of N1 million by a suspected ritualist to evade arrest in the Ijebu Ode area of the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, identified the 35-year-old as Ifasoji Ayangbesan, saying he confessed to having bought a pair of fresh human legs at the rate of N20,000.

“Luck, however, ran against him when he was apprehended at his Ijade Iloti hideout on the 28th of April 2023,” Oyeyemi stated.

“Immediately he was arrested, the suspect made an offer of a one million naira bribe to the policemen, which was rejected.”

The suspect, however, said he did not participate in the killing of the victim on January 28, 2023.

He was paraded alongside 12 other suspects on Wednesday at the Ogun State Police Command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital.

Ayangbesan, who is a resident of the Iloti axis of the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of the state, claimed to have collected the legs from his friend, Lukman, whom he said exhumed the corpse from a cemetery and severed the legs.

“I bought the two fresh human legs, but I was not involved in the murder of the victim. I was approached by my friend, Lukman, who told me he had a pair of legs to sell.

“Though I told him I did not need them, he convinced me to use them for a ritual to better my life and I agreed,” he said.

Other paraded include five suspected cultists, eight armed robbery suspects, and one suspected serial killer.

The state Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Oladimeji, paraded the suspects who he said would soon be charged in court.
