The Kebbi State branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero (KESUSTA), has appealed to Governor Nasir Idris to implement the 2024 consequential minimum wage for lecturers and other staff of the university.
In a statement, the union’s chairman, Abubakar Birnin Yauri, reminded the governor of his October 2024 directive for the immediate implementation of the new minimum wage for all categories of workers in the state. However, he noted that two months later, university staff are yet to benefit from the wage increase.
“We are appealing to him to include us in the implementation of the consequential minimum wage for our members to benefit,” Yauri stated.

The union also called on the state government to fulfill its promise of paying academic earned allowances, which have been outstanding since 2014, as well as addressing pending 2022 promotions for staff.
Despite these concerns, the union expressed gratitude to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Dan Shehu, for his efforts in addressing some of their demands. They also commended Governor Idris for initiatives such as the upward review of the university’s cash allocation, the constitution of the University Governing Board, and the approval of ₦119 million for the university’s maiden convocation ceremony.
Yauri, however, urged the state government to promptly implement the 2024 consequential minimum wage for all union members to avoid industrial action.
