The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has confirmed the explosion of a 30,000-capacity fuel tanker along the Abeokuta-Siun Expressway.
The Public Relations Officer of TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, attributed the cause of the incident to excessive speed, which resulted in the tanker spilling its contents.

“There is a case of an inferno caused by a 30,000 fuel-laden tanker which fell on its side and spilled its contents in the wee hours of today, around 0100hrs (1 a.m.), along the Abeokuta-Kobape-Siun Road due to excessive speed and loss of control,” he said.
The PRO confirmed that the effect of the inferno resulted in the burning of a truck and a tow vehicle along the roadside, as well as the destruction of a PHCN cable supplying electricity to Mowe and environs.
The agency, however, said there was no casualty.
“The general public, particularly the motoring public on transit along the route, is implored to be calm, patient, and cooperate with the diversion and re-routing of traffic put in place by security agencies,” he concluded.
Similarly, the Public Education Officer of the state sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, while confirming that there was no casualty, said three vehicles and shops were affected in the inferno.
