Adekunle Gold Receives Plaque For Becoming First Artiste To Sell Out Wole Soyinka Centre

The landmark achievement was recorded on December 26, 2025, when the Orente singer filled the iconic venue’s main bowl, marking the return of large-scale live performances to the cultural hub following its extensive renovation.


Adekunle Gold headlined a sold-out concert, “FUJI: An Iconic Show”, at the newly renovated National Theatre in December 2025.

 

Adekunle Gold has etched his name in Nigeria’s music history after becoming the first artiste to sell out the newly renovated National Theatre in Lagos, now known as the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts.

The landmark achievement was recorded on December 26, 2025, when the Orente singer filled the iconic venue’s main bowl, which has a seating capacity of over 3,500, marking the return of large-scale live performances to the cultural hub following its extensive renovation.

On Thursday, Adekunle Gold was presented with two commemorative plaques, one recognising the organisers and his record label for successfully staging the sold-out concert, and another honouring him as the first artiste to headline and sell out the refurbished theatre.

The plaque presented to the record label reads: “Sometin Different Management, Events and Record Label. Record Label for Adekunle Gold sold out National Theatre event in Lagos, Nigeria.”

The black-tie concert delivered a distinctive musical experience, blending classical orchestral arrangements with Afrobeats.

Adekunle Gold performed alongside a full orchestra, backed by his band, The 79th Element, offering fans a refined and immersive live show.

One of the night’s major highlights was the appearance of rapper Olamide, who theatrically introduced Adekunle Gold to the stage, describing him as a refined figure within the Afrobeats space.

“Ladies sneh and gentlemen, Sneh, I’m your host for today sneh. They call me Baddosneh. I’m here to introduce one of the most refined and sophisticated Afrobeats artists, known for his elegant style and impeccable finesse, a true embodiment of grandeur and top-tier artistry.

“Please join me in welcoming the big fish, AG Baby, Adekunle Gold, also known as Mr Kosoko. Sit back, relax and enjoy good music,” Olamide said.

The concert also featured appearances by music legends Adewale Ayuba and Yinka Ayefele, further elevating the historic night.

In addition, Davido made a surprise appearance, joining Adekunle Gold on stage to perform their collaboration, Only God Can Save Me.

In October 2025, the venue was officially renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts by President Bola Tinubu in honour of Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka’s 90th birthday.
