Meanwhile, his assumption of duty comes at a critical time, following growing security concerns in parts of the North-East, particularly after a recent airstrike at Jilli Market along the Yobe–Borno border.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, April 11, during a military operation, has prompted an investigation by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) amid reports of civilian casualties.
The airstrike was said to have targeted suspected Boko Haram insurgents allegedly operating within the market area.
While casualty figures remain disputed, several persons were reported killed, with many others injured and taken to medical facilities for treatment.
Clarifying the situation, the Yobe State Government stated that the affected community is located in Jilli, within the Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State, describing it as a known insurgent stronghold.
Authorities said that some victims from Geidam, Yobe State, who had gone to the market, were among those affected and have since been taken to the hospital.
Medical officials have confirmed that injured victims are receiving treatment, with some requiring blood transfusions and surgical intervention.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Air Force has assured that it is treating reports of civilian harm with “utmost seriousness and empathy,” noting that a full investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the strike.
