Three policemen and three other persons died after an Ecobank bullion van, four other vehicles and a motorcycle collided along Argungu-Birnin Kebbi road.

In a statement confirming the accident, police spokesperson Nafiu Abubakar said five other people and three policemen also sustained various degree of injuries and were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin-Kebbi.

“On the 27th September, 2022, there was a fatal motor vehicle accident/fire incident along Argungu/Birnin Kebbi road, involving a Bank Bullion van belonging to Eco Bank and four other motor vehicles and a motor cycle,” the statement said.

“The accident occurred when a Carina E car, carrying jerricans of PMS was suspected to have been pursued by a Nigeria Custom Service patrol team from Birnin Kebbi. On getting to Jeda village, the Carina E car had a head on collusion with the Bullion van, as a result, bursting into flames and consumed three other cars.

“Consequently, a total of five vehicles and one motorcycle burnt to ashes, six people including three Policemen also died in the inferno, while five other people, three policemen sustained various degree of injuries and were rushed to Federal Medical Center, Birnin Kebbi, for medical attention.

“On receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Ahmed Magaji Kontagora swiftly rushed to scene where he condoled with the families of the deceased and prayed the Almighty Allah to grant the lives of the departed souls an eternal rest and give their families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“CP Ahmed Magaji Kontagora is also asuring members of the public that, a thorough investigation will be carried out to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident, please.”

Bank Official, Armed Robber Killed In Abia Bullion Van Attack

A bank cash officer and an armed robber were killed on Tuesday in a bullion van attack, police authorities in Abia State have said.

The incident occurred at about 1:13pm at Ntigha junction along the Port Harcourt – Enugu Highway in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Geoffrey Ogbonna, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the incident in a statement in Umuahia, the state capital.

The bullion van, which was escorted by six policemen, was conveying cash from a commercial bank in Aba to Umuahia when it ran into an ambush by armed robbers.

The operatives providing security for the vehicle are “attached to 28 PMF Umuahia and Counter Terrorist Unit Base,” Ogbonna stated.

Following the ambush, the armed robbers opened fire on the van while the driver swerved into the bush. The gunmen later shot and killed the banker, although the driver fled the scene.

In a swift reaction, the police escorts engaged the armed robbers in a shootout, leading to the death of one of the criminals while his AK 47 rifle and three magazines strapped together were recovered.

Ogbonna disclosed that three of the policemen were injured and taken to a hospital for treatment, adding that the bodies of the banker and the armed robber have been deposited at a morgue.

He asked residents and proprietors of medical facilities to report anyone seen or presented with suspected gunshot injuries to the police or other security agencies.

One neutralized, AK 47 Rifle with ammunition recovered.

Today 26th July, 2022 at about 1313 hours along Port Harcourt/Enugu highway by Ntigha junction in Isiala Ngwa North LGA of the State, Six Mobile Policemen attached to 28 PMF Umuahia and Counter Terrorist Unit base 4 Aba while escorting a Bullion Van conveying cash from one New Generation Commercial Banks in Aba to Umuahia suddenly ran into a blockade/ambush mounted by armed robbers.

The armed robbers opened fire at the Bullion Van which forced its driver to swerve into the bush where the Bank Cash Officer was shot dead by the hoodlums while the driver escaped.

During a gun duel that ensued between the Police escorts and the hoodlums, one of the hoodlums was neutralized and his AK 47 rifle with ammunition laden in three magazines strapped together was recovered.

However, three of the escort men sustained gun shot injuries and were subsequently rushed to the hospital.

Meanwhile the corpses of the deceased Bank Staff and that of the neutralized hoodlum were deposited at the morgue for preservation while the investigation lasts.

The Police Command therefore, enjoins the public and proprietors of medical facilities in and outside the State to report any person (s) seen or presented with suspected gun shot injuries to the Police or any other Security Agency, please.



Armed Robbers Attack Bullion Van In Imo Community

Gunmen believed to be armed robbers have attacked a bullion van in Imo State, police authorities have said.

The Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, Mike Abattam, confirmed the attack on Thursday in Owerri, the state capital.

He explained that the incident occurred in the afternoon at Nguru community in Mbaise Local Government Area of the state.

Recounting how the incident happened, Abattam explained that the bullion van was returning to Owerri after delivering money at one of the commercial banks in the local government.

He added that the bullion van was attacked by the gunmen who caught up with the vehicle with the intention to cart away the money it was conveying.

Abattam said the driver of the van made several attempts to escape the attack, but the vehicle somersaulted in the process. No life was lost in the incident.

He stated that no money was carted away from the bullion van which he said was empty at the time of the attack.

According to the command’s spokesman, the gunmen fled the scene upon noticing that the vehicle was empty while the commissioner for police in Imo has drafted a police tactical team to the area.

He said the security operatives were asked to ensure the assailants were arrested and restore calm in the area.

Two Policemen Shot Dead As Robbers Attack Bullion Van In Ibadan


Two policemen have been shot dead as armed robbers attacked a bullion van at the Iwo Road area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The attack which happened on Thursday, left people scampering for safety as the exchange of gunshots between the robbers and security agents attached to the bullion van lasted for some minutes. Commuters were forced to abandon their cars in the middle of the road as security operatives struggled to repel the attack.

The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, who conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the scene of the crime, confirmed that two policemen were killed. She, however, said that one of the robbers was also shot dead during the attack but the robbers made away with his body.

While describing the attack as a coordinated one, Onadeko said all exit points in Ibadan have been placed on red alert. According to her, the move is to prevent the fleeing suspects from escaping.

“It is a coordinated attack which we are still trying to find out what happened because they trailed the bullion van from where it went to get money to dispense it to the place,” the CP said.

“I can’t definitely say now what actually went wrong, we are trying our possible best to get them. Two of my men were shot in the leg, let us investigate and we will be able to give you more details.”

The police commissioner stated further that Ibadan is under lockdown with the State Police Command working closely with other security agencies in tracking down the fleeing robbers.

Meanwhile, a series of amateur videos show some commuters with gunshot wounds and two policemen lying motionless after the gun duel with the robbers.

It is unclear how much money the robbers made away with but police authorities say measures are in place to prevent escape for the suspects as investigations begin to unravel those behind this audacious attack.

Gunmen Attack Bullion Van In Delta

Gunmen numbering about 10 on Thursday attacked a bullion van carrying Policemen on Specie Escort who were conveying cash from Asaba to Warri in Delta State.

The incident is said to have occurred at about 10:45 am along the Ughelli/Ozoro Expressway.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Dsp. Bright Edafe, who confirmed this in a statement, said a gun duel later ensued, leaving one Policeman and the driver of the bullion van injured.

However, according to the statement, no life was lost but some of the hoodlums were fatally injured and were taken away by their gang members while the Bullion Van was recovered and taken to the police station.

The police also say further development will be communicated as the incident is currently being investigated.

Policeman, Civilian Killed As Robbers Attack Bullion Van Again In Ondo

Dare-devil armed robbers have attacked another bullion van on the outskirts of Ondo State along the Lagos-Ore expressway.

The robbers were said to have opened fire on the bullion van at about 1pm on Wednesday, while on its way to Araromi-Obu in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo from Edo State.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo, Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident to Channels Television via a telephone conversation.

She stated that the robbers killed two persons – a policeman attached to the van and the driver of the vehicle.

Odunlami added that two other policemen on the team sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

She disclosed that the remains of the policeman and the driver killed have been deposited at a mortuary in the state.

The command’s spokesperson also confirmed that the robbers succeeded in carting away an unspecified amount of cash from the bullion van.

She said a detachment of policemen has been drafted to the area and the operatives were on the trail of the robbers.

Wednesday’s robbery comes a week after a bullion van was attacked at the Emure-Ile Junction along the Akure-Owo Highway.

A policeman was also shot during the incident which occurred on Wednesday last week, although the bullion van was not conveying any cash when it was attacked by robbers.

Robbers Attack Bullion Van In Ondo, Shoot Policeman

Public Relations Officer of Ondo State Police Command, DSP Funmi Odunlami, told Channels Television via the telephone that the attack occurred close to Emure-Ile junction along the highway.

The robbers were however unable to cart away any funds as the bullion van was not carrying any cash when they struck, Odunlami added.

Meanwhile, a team of policemen has been deployed to the area to apprehend the armed robbers and the injured policeman is being treated at a nearby hospital.

Ebonyi Bullion Van Attack: Soldier, Dismissed Colleague, Five Others Arrested

The police have arrested seven suspects involved in the robbery attack on a bullion van and the killing of four policemen in Ebonyi State.

According to a report obtained by Channels Television on Tuesday, the arrests were made barely five days after the incident.

Among those apprehended for the attack were two soldiers – one in active service and the other dismissed.

Channels Television had reported that the bullion van was being escorted by policemen to one of the first-generation banks along Ogoja Road in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital on Wednesday last week before it came under attack.

Following the incident, the police launched a ‘serious manhunt’ of the assailants which led to their arrest in less than one week.

The operation was carried out by police detectives attached to the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), with support from the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU).

While on the operation, the police team arrested one Alfred Robinson on Saturday last week in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The 45-year-old suspect is said to be a native of Gelegele town in Ovia North Local Government Area of Edo State.

Upon his arrest, the police recovered a Toyota 4 Runner SUV said to have been snatched alongside others for the purpose of the attack.

Also recovered from Robinson included a GPMG rifle with 153 rounds of live ammunition, five AK 47 rifles with 1,402 rounds of live ammunition, a K2 rifle with loaded magazine, and 51 AK 47 magazines.

An intensive follow up operation by the police team also led to the arrest of six more suspected members of the robbery gang within 24 hours.

Those arrested include Sergeant Ayeni Samuel, 43, who is a serving soldier attached to the Command Day Secondary School at the Nigerian Army Cantonment in Ikeja, Lagos and Corporal Emeka Harrison, 33, a dismissed soldier who until his dismissal was attached to 7 Division Garrison in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Others are Sunday Soyemu, 46, and a native of Alegnene in Ekeremor LGA of Bayelsa State; Emeka Illo, 37, and a native of Igwachi community in Orji River LGA of Enugu State; Abuchi Elijah, 27, and a native of Nsalangwa in Nsalangwa LGA of Abia State; and Ibanifiroi Ekiene, 38, and a native of Tombia community in Degema LGA of Rivers State.

According to the police, the six suspects arrested on Sunday came from various parts of the South-South and South-East.

They were said to be perfecting a planned intended bank robbery in Asaba this week before they were apprehended.

A Lexus 350 SUV containing various arms and ammunition were recovered from them.

The items include 136 rounds of K2 ammunition, five K2 magazines, 12 locally made bomb (unexploded), a KPT power tool 230MM angle grinder, and assorted charms, among others.

“All suspects, upon interrogation, confessed to the bullion van robbery in Ebonyi State where four policemen were killed, with many other armed robberies/kidnappings across the South-East and South-South.

“Suspects also confessed that four out of the rifles recovered belong to the policemen they killed during the bullion van robbery in Ebonyi State. Suspects are assisting police to arrest their remaining gang members,” the report said.

It was gathered that the governor’s convoy which was on its way to Lagos was forced out of the road, as the CBN bullion van attempted to overtake the convoy around Ibafor.

In the process, the van which was on high speed and roughly rammed into the governor’s escort vehicle and damaged it, though the governor himself was unhurt.

The situation was said to have left the governor and the team travelling with him in disbelief and shock at the display of utter carelessness to other road users by the driver of the CBN van.

Plateau Attack: Two Policemen Killed In Gun Battle

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Plateau Police Command, ASP Tyopev Mathias, some hoodlums attacked the mobile vehicle stationed along the highway, dispossessed a mobile police sergeant of his riot gunner and subsequently killed him.

In the process, a Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) bullion van coming from Jos en route Lafia in Nassarawa State, ran into the incident and another mobile sergeant in the convoy escort also died in the gun battle.

“Some hoodlums attacked a mobile unit along the Jos-Abuja highway in which a mobile police sergeant was killed while the special escort of the CBN bullion van going to Lafia ran into the attack, which led to the death of the other mobile police sergeant.

“The bullion van was not carrying any cash as at the time of the incident while the corpses of the policemen have been deposited at the Plateau specialist hospital.” The police spokesman told Channels Television on phone.

Rivers Police Recover 60,250,000 Naira Stolen By Bullion Van Driver

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the state, DC Uche Anozia, the monies were meant to be delivered to a new generation bank in Port Harcourt when the driver of the bullion van absconded after the first point of delivery.

DC Anozia told journalists that useful intelligence was obtained on commencement of investigation.

The sacks of monies were located in a parked vehicle in a super market in GRA area of the city.

The driver of the vehicle and the bullion van are said to be on the run but the Police say investigation is on.

Bullion Van Kills 22 Year Old Man In Abeokuta

Bullion VanA 22 year old motorcycle rider has been allegedly killed by a bullion van at Oke Ilewo area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The incident reportedly caused violent reactions from some residents of the area.

According to eyewitness accounts, the middle aged man, simply identified as Gbenga Okesola, was on an errand for his elder brother when he was hit and killed by the bullion van.

The alleged nonchalant attitude of Policemen following the bullion van towards the deceased irked the residents who took to the streets to protest the death of the young man.

Normalcy, however, returned to the scene of the accident with residents of the area going about their normal businesses after the initial violent reaction which trailed the death.
