Ambode Concedes Defeat, Congratulates Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has conceded defeat and congratulated Babajide Sanwo-Olu on his victory at the just-concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos Governorship primary.

Governor Ambode made this announcement on Wednesday during a press conference in Lagos.

He called on Lagosians to support the APC gubernatorial candidate, Sanwo-Olu, in the 2019 governorship elections.

“APC is a great party and the interests of our beloved State must always supercede that of any person or group.

“It is in this regard that I wholeheartedly congratulate the winner of the Lagos State APC Primaries, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and urge all Lagosians to immediately support our party’s gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 elections and work for the success of our dear party,” he said.

Governor Ambode also assured of a smooth transition of power on May 2019, adding that, “As Governor, I will do everything possible to ensure a smooth transition in the remaining period of this administration and ultimately to the new Governor, come May 2019.

He stressed that the APC remains united in the state and urged party members to support the party’s candidate in order to move Lagos State forward.

“I, therefore, appeal to all our party members that we remain one family and unite behind the candidate of the party so that we can continue to move this state forward.

“The progress of Lagos state is non-negotiable. It is a project that I have passionately worked for in the last three and half years as your Governor and one to which I will forever be devoted.”

Ambode in his address also appreciated the national leader of the APC.

“I wish to use this opportunity to thank our national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the leadership of our great party at state and national levels, all party faithfuls and all Lagosians.”

Lagos Govt Declares June 12 Public Holiday  

The Lagos State Government has declared Tuesday, June 12, 2018, as a public holiday.

This is in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the annulled 1993 Presidential elections adjudged to be have won by the late Moshood Abiola.

The State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Tunji Bello on Saturday, said the significance of June 12, 1993 elections, seen as the freest and fairest in the history of Nigeria, would always be a reference point by the Lagos State Government.

Ambode also commended President Buhari’s recent declaration of June as the new Democracy Day.

This, he said, would forever ensure that Chief MKO Abiola and other martyrs of democracy who laid down their lives in the struggle to entrench good governance did not do so vain.

“We want to commend and applaud Mr President, Muhammadu Buhari for deeming it fit finally against all odds from all other past presidents that 25 years after, we are able to now celebrate our own Democracy Day and also declare that the real winner of 1993 June 12 Presidential election was actually our own MKO Abiola.

“No matter how long you try to hide history, history will always reveal itself with a true platform. So, we know that is one very important singular step as we go forward to build an enduring democracy,” he said.

The governor added that June 12 is not just a day to remember in Lagos State, it is a rallying point for those of in service to continuously strive to entrench true democracy and good governance which are the ideals of Chief MKO Abiola.

Governor Ambode Hosts Australian High Commissioner

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode recently hosted Australian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Paul Lehmann.

The High Commissioner was received on Thursday, by the governor at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja. He was accompanied by Second Secretary, Australian High Commission, Nigeria, Fabien De Vel-Palumbo.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Ladi Lawason and Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Oluseye Oladejo were also there to receive the High Commissioner.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode makes ceremonial kick-off at Channels Kids Cup Final on Sunday, May 27 at Campos Square, Lagos.


The final match of the Channels Kids Cup was on Sunday opened by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode with a ceremonial kick-off.

The match was played at Campos Square, Igbosere, Lagos.

The governor to the delight of the spectators made the kick-off to signify the opening of the final match between LGEA Central Primary School, Kwara State and Baptist Primary, Osun State.

The final match was also attended by Chairman, Channels Media Group, John Momoh; Vice-Chairman, Channels Media Group, Olusola Momoh; and Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick.

Former Coaches of Super Eagles, Samson Siasia and Austin Eguavon were also in attendance.

Former Super Eagles Captain, Joseph Yobo and Former Super Eagles Midfielder, Mutiu Adepoju were also at the venue of the final match.

Kwara State Governor was represented at the event by the state Commissioner for Sports, Muideen Alalade.

Lagos State Appoints Three New Judges

Lagos State Appoints Three New JudgesThree new judges are to be sworn-in to the Lagos State Judiciary on Wednesday, March 8.

They would be inducted at a ceremony to be presided over by the State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode.

The newly appointed judges are: the Chief Registrar of the State Judiciary, Emmanuel Ogundare, the Deputy Chief Registrar, Special Duties, Magistrate Serifat Solebo and the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Idowu Alakija.

The appointments of the new judges followed the approval of the National Judicial Council (NJC) on the recommendation of the State Judicial Service Commission chaired by the Chief Judge, Oluwafunmilayo Atilade.

The new appointments has brought the total number of judges in the Lagos State Judiciary to 57 with 98 magistrates.

Lekki Gardens Building Collapse: Prosecution Of Contractors, Others To Begin

Building collapseThe Lagos State Government is set to commence the prosecution of suspects linked to the collapse of a five-story building on Tuesday March 8, 2016 in Lekki area of the south-west Nigeria state, which led to the death of 30 persons.

A statement by the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Adeniji Kazeem, said the office of the Attorney-General has concluded its legal advice and ready to prosecute a total of nine suspects deemed culpable in the collapse of the building.

“Following the conclusion of investigation by the Nigerian Police Force and technical reports of relevant Experts, my Office has concluded its Legal Advice and decided to prosecute the suspects for failure to obtain Planning Permit contrary to the provisions of the Urban and Regional Planning and Development Law, Ch. CU2 and Involuntary Manslaughter contrary to the provisions of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Ch. C17, Laws of Lagos State, 2015 respectively,” the Attorney-General said in the statement.

The property being built by Lekki Gardens Estate Limited and Get Too Rich Investment Limited known as Horizon 1 Extension, House H15, Lekki, Lagos State collapsed at about 05:00 a.m. local time, claiming the lives of 30 people.

Kazeem reiterated the commitment of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode-led administration to protecting the lives and property of residents of Lagos State and assured the general public that it would leave no stone unturned to ensure that criminal negligence and any form of crime is duly brought to book.

Lagos Govt. Begins Clean Up Of Ikoyi, VI And Lekki

Lagos, Ikoyi, Lekki, Victoria Island, Akinwunmi AmbodeThe Lagos State government has begun a move to extend its urban clean-up project to the Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki areas of the state in southwest Nigeria.

To achieve its plan, government has set up a committee to commence the elimination of illegal structures and shanties, street hawkers, as well as those who have converted walkways to trading points and food courts on the island.

Inaugurating the committee at the State House, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, expressed worry over the abuse of urban planning and environmental laws.

He said this necessitated the decision to embark on a major clean-up of the environment to restore it to its desired form.

Governor Ambode explained that his administration was passionately determined to rescue the fragile environment in the state from avoidable impediments.

The newly inaugurated 16-man committee, headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello, is saddled with the responsibility to commence the implementation of the approved action plan and execute the clean-up exercise among other terms of reference.

The government has given a 14-day ultimatum to those who might be affected by the exercise to vacate the premises.

Ambode Signs Lagos Property Protection, Neighbourhood Safety Bills

Akinwunmi Ambode, Lagos StateGovernor Akinwunmi Ambode has signed the Lagos State Properties Protection Bill into law, to tackle the menace of land grabbing in the state.

Governor Ambode also signed the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps Bill, a move which is majorly aimed at boosting security of lives and property across the state.

He explained that the laws were central to his administration’s focus of safeguarding the lives of all residents, as well as attracting investments and improving the ease of doing business in the Nigeria’s commercial capital.

The Governor noted further that the laws would reduce the activities of persons or corporate entities who use force and intimidation to dispossess or prevent any person or entity from acquiring legitimate interest and possession of property acquired through government or private transactions.

Dangote Gives Micro-Grant To Disadvantaged Women In Lagos

Aliko Dangote cement companySupporting social and economic change through investments and interventions that improve the lives of the less privileged will make a positive difference in the growth of Nigeria, the Chairman of Dangote Group, Mr Aliko Dangote said on Friday.

Mr Dangote made the statement during the launch of his Micro-Grant Programme and distribution of 400 million Naira to disadvantaged women in Lagos State.

Wealth, they say is not measured by quantity, but by the number of lives it has touched.

That perhaps best describes what Aliko Dangote Foundation is doing for women in Lagos State.

The 400 million Naira would be disbursed to 40,000 disadvantaged and vulnerable women across the state.

Quite elated by the gesture, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, said the move would complement the efforts of the state Government’s Economic Empowerment and Poverty Reduction Programme.

The distribution of the grant to beneficiaries will commence on Wednesday, June 2.

Besides Lagos, over 250,000 women have so far benefited from the programme across six states.

The programme targets a minimum of 1,000 vulnerable women in each of the 774 local government areas across Nigeria.

Lagos To Host President Buhari On Two-Day Working Visit

Muhammadu Buhari, LagosThe Lagos State Government will formally welcome President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, May 23, on a two-day working visit to the state.

It will be President Buhari’s first official visit to the state since he assumed office about a year ago.

A statement by the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Steve Ayorinde, stated that this is the first time in about 15 years, a sitting President would be visiting the state on a working visit.

Mr Ayorinde said that was a testimony to the landmark achievements of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in the last one year and the good working relationship between Lagos State and the Federal Government.

He added that the President during the visit, would formally commission the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Rescue Unit in Cappa Oshodi, built by the state government to ensure prompt and swift response to emergency situations in the state.

The Commissioner said President Buhari would thereafter, commission the newly constructed Ago Palace Way in Okota, Isolo after which he would pay homage to the Oba of Lagos, Oba Babatunde Rilwanu Aremu Akiolu.

He stated further that the President would later in the day be hosted to a reception rally by the state government at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos, where he would also commission and hand over security equipment and vehicles contributed by the Governor Ambode led administration to securities agencies to beef up security in the state.

The statement added that activities for the first day of the President’s visit would be rounded up with a State Banquet in his honour at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island.

The President would on Tuesday, participate as the Special Guest of Honour at a breakfast session with Corporate Lagos to be hosted by Governor Ambode at the Lagos State House in Marina after which he would have a short session with the public service at the State House in Alausa-Ikeja.

The Commissioner quoted Governor Ambode as being joyous over this landmark presidential visit to Lagos State that contributed so much to his emergence as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He added that Lagosians (the state residents) were looking forward with excitement to receiving the President, just as he urged them to bear with law enforcement agents and traffic control authorities, who would effect road diversions in some of the routes that the President motorcade would pass through during the visit.
