Three policemen on Thursday met their untimely death as unknown gunmen opened fire on them at a patrol post in Bauchi.

It was reported that there were four policemen on duty at the time of the attack, one of them managed to escape into the bush.

The gunmen who were said to have attacked the policemen around 8:49 am also carted away the three guns belonging to them.

The victims were two inspectors and a corporal who were just deployed to the patrol center.

The Police Public Relations Officer [PPRO] of the Bauchi state command, ASP Muhammad Auyo, said that investigation into the incident has commenced.

He also said a team of well-armed policemen had already been dispatched to the scene of the attack to search for the hoodlums and expressed optimism that the gunmen would be fished out, apprehended and brought to justice.

This comes after at least five people were killed in attacks on a police station, a local government office and a factory owned by Indians in the northeast city of Maiduguri on Thursday.
