Air-Force-Aircraft-crashThe Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, on Sunday visited the site at the Nigerian Defence Academy, where a Dornier 228 light aircraft belonging to the Nigerian Air Force crashed on Saturday, killing all seven people on board.

The Defence Chief, who was accompanied to the crashed site by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Aliyu Ismaila and other top military officers, described the incident as unfortunate.

Both the Permanent Secretary and the Defence Chief assured that efforts will be put in place to ensure that such an incident never occurs again.

The ill-fated plane took off from the Air Force base in Kaduna enroute Abuja, unfortunately, less than ten minutes in the air, it wobbled before crashing inside in a compound.

Although no member of the household was killed in the crash, the helicopter crash left a devastating impact on the building.

While emergency officials have removed the wreckage of the crashed plane and deposited the remains of the dead bodies at the Air Force hospital mortuary, the Defence Chief and his entourage expressed shock over by what they saw at the site.

They observed a minute’s silence in respect for the departed souls, before paying a condolence visit to families of the victims at the Air Force Base to commiserate with them over the incident.
