Over 100 People Starve To Death In Somalia

idp campFive children have so far died from cholera and malaria fever outbreak at the IDP camp in Apa Local Government Area, following herdsmen attack on Agatu communities since February 2016.

The Apa IDP camp director, Reverend Father John Attah, disclosed this to newsmen during the first medical intervention programme initiated by former Senate President, David Mark and his wife Kate, following the news of disease outbreak in the camps.

The medical team brought in by Mrs Kate Mark, said that most of the children suffered from malaria and cholera fever due to malnutrition and poor hygiene, a development the state emergency agency said it has been addressing.

A visit to the camp revealed how bad the water and environmental sanitation at the IDP camp is.

Food items and the cooking process, leaves much to be desired. The disease outbreak and subsequent deaths indeed arose from poor hygiene and overcrowding.

Representing Kate Mark, the organizer of the medical intervention, Mrs Ada Mark-Ogbole and the state emergency agency, believe more needs to be done to improve the lives and welfare of the IDPs.

They noted that the plight of the IDPs across most of the camps established by the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), require proper care and maintenance to forestall further outbreak of diseases and fatalities.
