The Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole has given the state police command 14 days to fish out the killers of his private secretary and the three journalists who died at last weekend’s convoy crash.

Governor Oshiomhole of Edo State

The governor gave the ultimatum after he led party leaders and other members of government on a protest along major streets in Benin City.

Mr  Oshiomhole who said no one has the monopoly of evil, warned leaders of the opposition to repent from their ways.

The private secretary to Mr Oshiomhole, Olaitan Oyerinde was killed at about 2am Friday morning by four assailants who shot him thrice.

According to the house guard of late Mr. Oyerinde,  who saw the killers entering the bulding, said the former aide to the governor was shot in cold blood.

The Nigeria labour Congress (NLC) has condemned the assassination saying Nigerian workers are shocked beyond words by the tragic assassination.

Mr. Oyerinde was until his death, the deputy general secretary of the labour group.

He was on leave of absence and serving in Edo state as the principal private secretary to the state governor.

A statement from the NLC president, Abdulwaheed Omar said that “the gruesome assassination is baffling as Comrade Oyerinde was not a politician, held no high government appointment and was not even an indigene of Edo state.”

It further stated that this assassination is coming so soon in the wake of a suspicious traffic accident involving comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s convoy in which three journalists lost their lives and an assassination attempt on the state information commissioner, Mr Louis Odion.

The NLC president noted that the way the politics of Edo state is going is reminiscent of the first republic politics in the old western region which led to tragic consequences for the entire country.

The labour group called on the federal government to thoroughly investigate Mr. Oyerinde’s assassination and bring the criminals to justice.

The Campaign for Democracy has also demanded a probe into the circumstances that led to the murder.

The president of the civil society group, Joe Okei- Odumakin described the murder as another chapter in the assassination of citizens in Nigeria and demanded that his killers be brought to justice.

She further said that the perpetrators of crimes continue to evade justice because the justice administration has a near zero rate of tracking them down.

Mr. Oyerinde was the chairman on the CD in Lagos state between 1992 and 1994.
