Series of explosions and gunfires has echoed through the Gombe state capital in northeast Nigeria on Friday evening.

A security personnel who does not want to be named has confirmed to Channels Television that the violence is echoing from the Tudunwada area of the state where the Prisons, police headquarters and the Emir’s palace is located.

Agency reports states that the explosions were heard during the evening prayers and people have reportedly fled the area as gunfire rang out throughout the city.

Other sources add that gunfire could also be heard at various locations in the city including the Police station opposite the Bubayero primary school in the city center.

15 people were injured in an explosion that occurred at a hotel in the outskirts of Gombe in December 2011.

Radical Islamic sect; Boko haram has being staging similar bomb attacks across the states in northern Nigeria.
