This was disclosed in a statement on the website of the Nigeria Police Force. The statement further said that the Police Service Commission have approved the re-organisation of the Force with the creation of an additional wing, ‘G’ Department.

The ‘G’ Department is an amalgamation of the Information Technology and Communications sections from the former ‘F’ and ‘B’ departments.

At their decoration on March 2, DIG Suleiman Fakai was named as the second-in-command (2 I/C) to the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar; while Marvel Akpoyibo was deployed to ‘A’ Department (Administration); John Haruna took charge of ‘B’ Department (Operations); Emmanuel Udeoji, ‘C’ Department (Works); Peter Yisa Gana, ‘D’ Department (Investigations); AbduRahman Akano, ‘E’ Department (Training); and Atiku Y. Kafur to head the ‘F’ Department (Research and Information Technology).

However, in the statement, DIG Akano was moved to head the new ‘G’ Department, while Fakai was moved from second-in-command to the IG to head ‘A’ Department; while Akpoyibo was redeployed to head ‘E’ Department (Training).
