The Nigerian Army has condemned the recent Amnesty International reports, which accused the military Joint Task Force (JTF) of gross human rights violations in its operational approach in dealing with the emergent wave of terror unleashed in some parts of the North by members of the Boko Haram sect.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika in a media chat on Tuesday in Abuja said that the methodology used by International Human Rights Group is faulty.
Gen Ihejirika, who was represented by the Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Maj-Gen Bitrus Kwaji, described the report as unbalanced and highly subjective in favour of the aspirations of Boko Haram.
He said that the military were never contacted or consulted while the Rights Groups were gathering information, and conducting interviews from members of the sect from which they concluded their report.
The rights group, in a report released on Thursday, said the JTF have extra judicially executed, detained without trial or charge and forced the disappearance of hundreds of people accused of links to the Boko Haram sect.
