The headquarters of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja was attacked early Monday morning by a group of unidentified gunmen.

The Police Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, however confirmed to Channels Television that the attack was repelled by the security operatives on duty.

It is not certain if suspected Boko Haram members detained at the facility were freed. No casualty has been reported.

The SARS HQ is one of the places Boko Haram suspects are normally held when transferred to Abuja.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack but it mirrors the style of the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram.

This attack comes a day after a double suicide bombing killed 11 people in a church inside a military barracks in Kaduna state, north- central Nigeria.
