The Chairman, Special Ad-hoc Committee of the Imo state House of Assembly, Simeon Iwunze on Monday said that the state’s deputy governor Jude Agbaso lied while denying bribery allegations against him.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Mr Iwunze said that about seven months ago the Imo State government arrested a contractor over some project that he was awarded.

According to him, the government had paid for the rehabilitation of the Signature road in Owerri but it hadn’t been done so a committee was set up to be investigated it.

Mr Iwunze said the House of Assembly invited Mr Agbaso, who is also the commissioner for works and housing, to find out why the road wasn’t done and how the money was spent.

He said the deputy governor lied before the lawmakers that he did not demand or receive bribe from the contractor.

According to him, the constructor confirmed that the alleged money was paid into three different account with the instruction of the deputy governor.
