APCThe Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ado Ekiti, on Wednesday, commenced proceedings in the petition filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the June 21 governorship election.

The candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Ayo Fayose, had emerged winner in a landslide victory which knocked out incumbent governor, Kayode Fayemi, the APC candidate.

However, after Governor Fayemi conceded defeat to Fayose, through a State-wide broadcast, the APC decried the election process, as well as some of the activities leading up to the day of the election, including the arrest of some top APC members.

The Party further announced its plans to contest the result of the election in Court.

The Tribunal in Ado-Ekiti sat to consider an ex parte motion filed by the APC seeking the leave of the court to inspect the Independent National Electoral Commission materials used for the election.

The APC through its counsel, Kabiru Akingbolu withdrew the ex- parte motion after the re-evaluation of the matter by the petitioner.

The motion filed had sought the permission of the tribunal for the electoral umpire to allow the APC to inspect the ballot papers used at June 21 poll.

The motion was however struck out by the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Ibrahim Muhammad Siraju.
