Lagos Chief JudgeHistory will be made in Lagos State on Wednesday, August 20, as Justice Oluwafunmilayo Olajumoke Atilade of the High Court of Lagos succeeds her sister, Justice Ayotunde Philips as the Chief Judge.

The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ade Ipaye, said that following the appointment of Justice Atilade as Chief Judge designate by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babatunde Fashola, and approval of that appointment by the State House of Assembly, Atilade would be duly sworn in by the Governor on Wednesday, August 20, 2014

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja at 2.30pm local time.

The former Lagos Chief Judge, Justice Philips, bowed out on attaining the mandatory retirement age of 65.

Justice Atilade would become the 15th Chief Judge of Lagos State and the fifth woman to occupy the post.
