Alonge TemitopeThe Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital Ibadan, Professor Temitope Alonge, has said that the young man, who was brought from Lagos on suspicion that he had Ebola, actually had Lassa fever.

Professor Alonge made serious plea on Monday to the healthcare community in the country to stop stigmatisation of patients in order to achieve success in the fight against Ebola Virus Disease.

He added that the young man would not have died if he got treated on time.

His relatives had revealed to the University College Hospital (UCH) management that he was rejected in all the hospitals visited in Lagos before he was brought to UCH.

Addressing reporters, Professor Alonge explained that the hospital performed all the necessary tests to confirm the ailment and discovered that it was lassa and had started treating him before he died.

The Chief Medical Director also urged state governments not to ostracize or stigmatise patients who present with hemorrhagic fever, as it could be symptom of another ailment.
