INEC-office-burnThe Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Imo State, Mr Gabriel Ada, on Wednesday said despite the fire outbreak at the commission’s office at Nwaoriubi in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state last Sunday, the commission will still go ahead with the conduct of the governorship and state assembly elections slated for Saturday, April 11, 2015.

Speaking to our correspondent in Owerri, the REC said the commission has taken delivery of some non-sensitive materials from the headquarters in Abuja, adding that they have also secured a caravan which will be used as a temporary office for Saturday’s elections.

He, however, said they are still expecting some sensitive materials which will be dispatched to the local government as soon as they get to their office in Owerri to ensure that elections go on smoothly without any hiccups in the area come Saturday, April 11.

Mr Ada insisted that the card reader machine will be used more effectively during Saturday’s election and any place where the card reader malfunctions, elections will be shifted till the next day to ensure that elections in the state is free and fair.

Mr Ada also added that the commission has already worked on the lapses and challenges faced in the last elections and remained optimistic that this coming elections will be successful.

He further noted that the commission is giving a level playing ground for all the political parties, warning all politicians to play by the rules and warn their supporters to desist from any form of ballot snatching or act of rigging that will discredit elections in the state.
