PoliceEkiti State Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, has been redeployed.

He was allegedly said to have connived with thugs loyal to the Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, to attack 19 lawmakers of the state who were on their way to the state assembly complex to begin impeachment proceedings against the governor.

This is said to have prompted the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, to order the redeployment  of Mr. Lakanu after he investigated a petition detailing his alleged connivance with the state governor.

Subsequently, Assistant Inspector General Of Police (AIG), Mohammed Gana, has been directed to take charge of the state during the elections and until violence in the state subsides.

A senior police officer confirmed to Channels Television that Mr. Lakanu is currently at the Nigeria Police Headquarters in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

The political crisis in Ekiti State took a turn for the worse following the declaration of General Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the March 28 presidential election, culminating in an attack on the APC secretariat and the members of the party on Wednesday.
