The President said this at the opening of the 2016 International Islamic Conference on Peace and Nation Building holding in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The aim of the conference was to mobilize participants across the globe for sensitization on the current challenges of insecurity and terrorism wrongly attributed to the religion of Islam.
The President used the opportunity to call on religious, community and political leaders to mobilize their followers against corruption and crimes of any kind as well as encourage them to be more tolerant of each other’s rights of worship.
He decried what he called years of neglect and corruption in the country and gave the assurance that his government would do everything possible to safeguard lives and property and development of the country.
The conference had in attendance, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki and other prominent citizens from in and out of government and their friends from the international community including the United States and Saudi Arabia.
The Senate President brought a message of goodwill to the conference while the organizers stated their willingness to support the Nigerian government in its effort to restore peace and stability and also eliminate insurgency in all its ramifications.
The Secretary General of the World Muslim League, Dr Abdullah Bin Abdul Mohsin Al-Turki, through an interpreter, enumerated the qualities of a good Muslim and the legacies he would want left behind for the good of all.
Many of the participants expressed the belief that the conference was timely and that all hands must be on deck to fight insurgency.
