Two people have been confirmed dead and many missing, as gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists ambushed and opened fire on a military/police convoy.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at Abari/Dalwa village along the Maiduguri/Damboa highway.

The large convoy was conveying civilians, soldiers and police on a special duty deployment from Oghara in Delta State to Askira town, when the incident occurred.

Reports say that the insurgents opened fire at 200 vehicles and an 80-seater bus conveying officers, in the process of scampering for safety, six officers were injured, while others went missing.
Although some of the officers escaped with their guns intact but one police officer and the truck driver were killed during the ambush.

Meanwhile the Borno Police Commissioner, Damian Chukwu confirmed the incident and the death of the military personnel.

He added that the injured are currently receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

“The police lorry was conveying officers to the burial party of a personnelwhen the lorry was attacked and a Sgt, Bala Tishe was shot dead.

“One service FNC rifle was taken away while a truck driver Mustapha Modu, conveying relief materials was killed in the same attack.

“The driver of the NPF lorry was injured, the police lorry carted away with other occupants including two police personnel and some relatives of the deceased personnel”.

The CP further disclosed that some military and commercial vehicles were also carted away and search for the missing persons have begun.
