The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) has distributed drugs to 12 medical centres across the state to aid victims of the Boko Haram insurgency who just returned to their home.

Presenting the drugs to the executive secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Board, the Permanent Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency Idi Jidawa called on the Board to ensure that the drugs are immediately put to use so as to serve the purpose intended.

The medicines were brought to the state by the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) with an instruction that “they should be shared to the downtrodden who passed through series of hazards as a prevalent terrorists attack occasion by the Boko Haram insurgency”.

They consisted of antimalarial, analgesics, various supplements, among several others meant for children and adults alike.

The YOSEMA, according to Jidawa, carefully chose some communities in Gujba, Gulani and Damaturu Local Government to benefit from the initiative in view of the health hazards they have experienced over the years because of the Boko Haram insurgency.

“Let me at this point employ you to work assiduously towards ensuring that the drugs are taking to benefiting communities and shared promptly to serve the purpose intended.

“I also want to use this opportunity to thank the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria for its magnanimity for coming to the help of the displaced insurgency victims and to also call on others to emulate them.”

He said the primary health care unit of the three councils have been directed to ensure effective monitoring of how the drugs are being used within the communities.

Receiving the drugs, the executive secretary of the state Primary Healthcare Board, Dr Hauwa Goni, expressed gratitude to the resettlement committee and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria.

She stated that they will be shared to all the twelve medical health centres for the purpose intended.

“Let me thank the committee for resettlement headed by the state Deputy Governor and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria for the prompt assistance to the displaced persons.

“The choice of the twelve medical facilities in Damaturu, Gujba and Gulani as benefiting communities is a right step in the right direction and I can assure you that they will get the drugs promptly”.
