Members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) from the northern senatorial district of Plateau State have embarked on a protest in Jos, the state capital.

The protesters, who dressed in black attire on Wednesday, condemned the recent attacks on communities which left at no fewer than one hundred persons dead.

They asked the government to provide adequate security for the people, especially in the rural areas where the people are prone to attacks by herdsmen.

Carrying placards with various inscriptions, the demonstrators took to some major streets of the metropolis starting from the Old Airport Junction, through the Air Force Junction and proceeded to Rayfield Road.

Upon arriving at the Governor’s Lodge, the absence of the governor prompted them to take the protest to the Government House in Little Rayfield where they were denied access to the premises.

This made the angry demonstrators to forcefully gained entrance into the premises, damaging the entrance to some offices and smashing windshields of some cars parked.

Disappointed with the attitude of the protesters, the Commissioner for Information and Communication in the state, Yakubu Dati, condemned the incident in spite of government efforts towards restoring peace to the affected areas.

Meanwhile, the special military task force, Operation Save Haven, has paraded three suspects in connection with the killings.

The suspects were said to have been captured at Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area and were paraded alongside 14 others.

Two of them were said to be herdsmen while the last man was reported to be a native of Berom, a minority ethnic group in Plateau.

Spokesman for Operation Save Haven, Major Umar Adams, revealed that the suspects had sophisticated rifles in their possession while efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the gang.
