The Federal Government on Thursday resumed talks with the leaders of the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) over the ongoing strike in public universities which has entered Day 11.

The crucial meeting which is being held behind closed-doors has in attendance the National President of the Union, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi who led the Union’s Delegation.

The Minister Of Labour and Productivity, Chris Ngige, at the commencement of the meeting, appealed to the union leaders that the meeting is coming a bit late because of the negotiations on the new minimum wage.

Others present at the meeting are the Accountant General of the Federation and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education.

The lecturers commenced the strike action on November 4 to protest the non-implementation of agreements over welfare issues.

According to them, the strike is meant to express grievance over certain unimplemented areas in the 2017 MoA, which they said suggested the Federal Government’s insincerity to the demands by the lecturers.

Other demands of ASUU include improved funding of education and improved teaching and learning conditions in the universities.
